Donald Trump called House and Senate Democrats who refused to stand and cheer throughout his State of the Union address treasonous and accused them of being Un-American. A sitting President accusing an opposing political party as treasonous is unheard of in American history. A White House official later claimed Trump's comment was meant to be a joke, but Trump never informed his audience that he was, in fact, joking.

"They were like death and un-American. Un-American. Somebody said, 'Treasonous.' I mean, yeah, I guess, why not," Trump said. "Can we call that treason? Why not," he added. "I mean they certainly didn't seem to love our country that much."
