Donald Trump accidentally praised people of faith for the "abolition of civil rights" during a speech at the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, D.C. He certainly didn't mean to say those words, but the irony of his statement was not lost on many left leaning commentators who have for years charged the religious right with actively working to undermine other peoples civil and human rights in defense of their own.
Quote | It was an obvious misstatement, but the irony was not lost on many commentators.
“Since the founding of our nation many of our greatest strides, from gaining our independence to abolition of civil rights [sic], to extending the vote for women, have been led by people of faith and started in prayer.”
