Type: Discontinues Respectful TraditionsJan 06 2017 Severity:
Trump's transition team told all ambassadors that were political appointees of Barack Obama to vacate their posts by Inauguration day. The order gave no grace period at all, even in special cases like overseas positions. The reason for this tradition is to give the ambassadors time to find new employment and living conditions, also to avoid diplomatic gaps while the administration searches for new appointees. Since Trump broke the grace period tradition, these positions could stay empty for months.
