Donald Trump Misleadingly Claimed his Executive Order Saved Coal Mining Jobs

Type: Misleading StatementsFeb 17 2017 Severity:

In a weekly address, Trump suggested his executive order to roll back a regulation that would have prevented pollution due to coal mining, would have threatened a significant number of coal mining jobs. No evidence exists that such a regulation would have done what he said. Also, coal jobs have been on a decline since the 1980's.

“I signed House Joint Resolution 38, which eliminates an anti-coal regulation put forward by unelected bureaucrats. Our coal miners have been treated horribly, and we are going to turn that around, and we are going to turn it around quickly.”
