President Trump attended a rally to support Matt Rosendale, a candidate for the Montana Senate. Later in the speech, Trump touched on his dealings with NATO. He claimed that he got them to pay billions of dollars, when in actuality NATO has a guideline that defense expenditures should amount to 2% of each country's GDP by 2024. In 2017, the U.S. and three other countries met that standard. In short, these funds would not go to the U.S. or even NATO, for that matter. The money would go to a country's own military.
