Donald Trump hijacked his first briefing at the Pentagon as President to demand a major military parade with "vehicles and tanks on Main Street" as former Defense Secretary James Mattis was giving the new President a detailed explanation of all of the United States military assets throughout the world. As Mattis was talking, Trump interrupted him to talk about the Bastille Day Parade he went to in France and how he wants to have something even bigger in the US. The room full of high ranking military personnel apparently fell into a silent shock.
Quote | He became so fixated on having a parade that the entire briefing flew off the rails.
“I want a ‘Victory Day.’ Just like Veterans Day. The Fourth of July is too hot,” Trump said, out of nowhere in particular. “I want vehicles and tanks on Main Street. On Pennsylvania Avenue, from the Capitol to the White House. We need spirit! We should blow everybody away with this parade. The French had an amazing parade on Bastille Day with tanks and everything. Why can’t we do that?”
