Donald Trump Falsely Claimed He Never Asked For Repealing Obamacare Before 2020 Election

Type: Outright LiesApr 03 2019 Severity:
About: Obamacare (Affordable Care Act)
Donald Trump falsely claimed he never asked for the repeal and replace of Obamacare before the 2020 election even though he did just that mere days earlier. Trump renewed his attacks on Obamacare seemingly out of thin air, surprising Senate Republicans who felt the issue was one of the reasons they lost the House in 2018. Not just that, but the Trump Administration has sided with plaintiffs challenging the constitutionality of the law in Federal court. But now Trump insists we shouldn't pay attention to what he said days ago and should believe him now when he says he wants to wait until after 2020.

Quote | The President's words and court actions directly contradict his new insistance.

"I was never planning a vote prior to the 2020 Election on the wonderful HealthCare package that some very talented people are now developing for me & the Republican Party. It will be on full display during the Election as a much better & less expensive alternative to ObamaCare. This will be a great campaign issue. I never asked Mitch McConnell for a vote before the Election as has been incorrectly reported (as usual) in the @nytimes, but only after the Election when we take back the House etc. Republicans will always support pre-existing conditions!"
